An Interior Design Process - Step by Step to your Finished Home
Our Interior Design Process
Interior design may seem mysterious and undefined to many people. However, in reality, most interior designers follow a well-defined and creative process when working with clients.
At KINDLY, we have developed a method to guide our clients through the design process. Our goal is to make this journey enjoyable, straightforward, and, above all, stress-free. We will support you every step of the way, ensuring that we make informed decisions together about the products and finishes that will enhance your home, lifestyle, and happiness.
Let's dive into our project phases
Through years of experience, we have honed a clear and efficient process that keeps each project running smoothly. Trusting our design process ensures that the results will surpass your expectations. Here are the key steps we follow:
01. Discovery
Every interior design project starts with thorough planning and research. This sets a solid foundation for designing your space.
Taking a Design Brief
We begin by taking your brief and using our expertise to transform it into a design vision. We aim to strike the perfect balance between practicality and aesthetics.
During this stage, we delve into the details of how you currently use your home or how you envision using it in the future. Through a site visit, we gain a deeper understanding of your property, your personality, your family, and your lifestyle. Whether you're an avid reader with a cherished book collection, a gym enthusiast in need of space for your Peloton, or a family with unique quirks and interests, we ensure that your design incorporates all of your personal preferences.
Site Visit
During the initial site visit, we carefully analyze your space. We identify its strengths and begin considering solutions for areas that may not be functioning optimally. We take into account your existing belongings, cherished items, and beloved furniture to ensure they are seamlessly integrated into your project.
Site Analysis
As interior design is a collaborative process, we provide a concise breakdown of our interpretation and findings from the analysis of your home or floor plans. This initial presentation helps our clients understand the logic behind our designs. The site analysis may cover topics such as lighting, layout and furniture placement, architect plan reviews, window treatments, and recommended building or renovation work.
02. Concept
The inspiration stage sets the design direction for your project. It ensures that we capture all the requirements for your space and accurately reflect your personal style. We work closely with your brief and the insights we have gathered from you to identify the key elements that will shape your design. During this stage, you will begin to see material and finish suggestions, furniture shapes and silhouettes, and the overall feel and atmosphere we aim to create in your home.
Gathering Inspiration
In the inspiration stage, no ideas are off the table. We may introduce unexpected concepts or suggest colours you haven't considered before. Your feedback is invaluable, as it helps us get to know you better and refine our designs. Open communication is key for a smooth and successful process.
Discovery Booklet
At the end of this stage, you will receive a Discovery Booklet, which includes our site analysis and mood boards showcasing the aesthetic direction we are pursuing. The Discovery Booklet serves as a visual guide that ensures we are all on the same page before moving on to the Design Concept stage. We will walk you through the booklet to explain our imagery and interpretations. Take the time to absorb the details and provide us with your feedback. Your initial reaction is important, but we also value your thoughts after a few days, once the surprise has settled and ideas have had time to grow in your mind.
03. Design
Once we have established the look, feel, and other characteristics of your space, we begin translating those inspirations into an achievable design. This design encompasses all elements, from finishes to furniture. During the process, we consider various factors, including build and manufacturing quality, sustainability, durability, function, and budget.
To achieve the perfect look, we often design or commission bespoke or custom-made pieces, such as upholstery, window treatments, and cabinetry. By collaborating with skilled tradespeople and craftsmen, we can bring to life a truly unique and beautiful home. Throughout the design process, we sample and test all finishes to ensure they complement each other, flow naturally within the space, and meet the highest standards for your project.
This stage is the most time-consuming, as we meticulously select, source, and evaluate numerous options. We request samples and visit manufacturers and suppliers to ensure we choose the best options for you.
04. Fulfilment
The Fulfilment stage is arguably the most crucial part of the design process. It is here that your project comes together and starts to take shape.
During this stage, we handle all aspects of purchasing your new items. This includes identifying potential suppliers, negotiating pricing, issuing purchase orders, and tracking deliveries. As we collaborate with multiple suppliers, tradespeople, and manufacturers, this process demands attention to detail and thorough administration to ensure that nothing is overlooked.
05. Realisation
Attention to detail is vital throughout the design project. However, it is during the final stage that our expertise truly shines. All the hard work and careful planning culminate in the creation of the desired look.
Whenever possible, we love to assist with the installation. With our designer's eye, we ensure that every piece of furniture is placed optimally, artwork and mirrors are hung at ideal heights, and all finishing touches are taken care of. If required, we can schedule a team to assemble and install furniture or lighting on-site, working alongside our trusted tradespeople and handymen. Upon completion, you will receive a folder containing all the necessary handover documentation, including FF&E info, manufacturer warranties, FR certificates, and care and operating manuals.
Finally, we style and photograph your beautiful home, ensuring it's ready for you to walk into and enjoy immediately.
We hope this breakdown of our design process provides you with a clear understanding of how we work. If you have any further questions or would like to discuss your project, please feel free to reach out to us - We're here to help you create the home of your dreams.
