Salone del Mobile 2025: Milan, Magic and Mind-Blowing Design

Is there anything more fabulous than Milan in the spring? This April, we packed Danielle off to soak up the sights, the style, and the design buzz at Salone del Mobile 2025 and as always, she returned inspired, excited, and with a camera roll bursting at the seams.

But don’t expect a traditional trade show recap. Danielle’s design radar is finely tuned to the unexpected, and it’s often the off-the-beaten-track installations, hidden in courtyards, villas, and leafy piazzas, that spark the most excitement.

Material Shifts: Bye Bye Brass, Hello Chrome

One of the standout shifts this year? A sharp move away from the golden warmth of bronze and brass. Instead, think polished aluminium, sleek chrome, and strong sculptural forms, especially in statement pieces like stone coffee tables and minimalist benches.

Think: cool, confident, and utterly unapologetic. One sculptural bench, crafted from Italian granites and framed in polished aluminium, was the design equivalent of a power pose.

Colour Trends: From Runway to Living Room

Fashion’s influence was front and centre, with deep burgundy, rich aubergine, and romantic blush tones setting the mood. But it wasn’t all dark and dramatic. Milan also brought the sunshine, with ice cream pastels and pretty spring shades popping up in curved, organic furniture silhouettes.

This pastel-toned side table by Irene Cattaneo x Meritalia at Rossana Orlandi was a particular delight, like sorbet for the soul!

Rossana Orlandi: The Queen of Creative Alchemy

No Milan Design Week is complete without a visit to the whimsical world of Rosana Orlandi’s gallery, and this year was pure magic. Her RoCollectible showcase continues to champion sustainability, material innovation, and unexpected beauty.

Danielle’s highlights?

  • A textural cabinet crafted from fused, sliced recycled resin, giving the illusion of layered veneer and tactile 3D art.

  • A soft-touch amber bath made from rubber, supported by a delicate hand-forged frame.

These weren’t just pieces of furniture - they were sculptures you wanted to hug.

Alcova: Ruins, Romance & Radical Design

Alcova once again stole the show, set against the dreamy backdrop of crumbling villas and overgrown greenhouses. Among the treasures:

  • Outdoor tables made from molten lava, coloured like gemstones and built to withstand extreme weather with elegance.

  • An exciting discovery: Soft Witness, the brand by designer Witney Krieger, who debuted a polished chrome-framed modular recliner that transforms into a sofa or two individual chairs.

A Final Note from Milan (with Love)

Sure, we go for the design inspiration. But let’s be honest, the scent of wisteria in bloom and the promise of gelato on every corner are just as irresistible.

Milan Design Week never fails to deliver and 2025 felt especially bold, experimental, and soulful. The future of luxury interiors? It’s tactile, transformative, and deeply personal.

And we can’t wait to bring a slice of it home to you.
